AKA Hauling Commercial Driving School

We strongly advise all prospective and enrolled students to download and carefully review the Student Guide & Course Catalog. It's important to note that these catalogs are updated annually and published before the next school year.

Commercial Driving Training

Eligibility

Student Requirements:

  • Age: 18 years of age for intrastate only, 21 years of age for interstate (unrestricted).

  • Driver's License: Possession of an Alaska Driver's License (valid for at least one year).

  • Financial Commitment: Payment is required according to the confirmed schedule. Payment plan options are available and determined on a case-by-case basis.

  • Availability: Schedule that will not interfere with class attendance/participation.
     

The following is not required for enrollment but will be necessary for obtaining a license:

  • Real ID Compliance: Ability to comply with the State of Alaska Real ID Act. Required Government Issued Documents when obtaining a CDL License from the DMV include a valid U.S. Passport or Passport Card, U.S. State or Territory Issued Birth Certificate, Certificate of Naturalization, Valid Permanent Resident Card, Consular Report of Birth Abroad, or Certificate of Citizenship.   • Medical Certification: Submission of a Department of Transportation (DOT) medical examiner's certificate prior to class.

Please note:

  • A Department of Transportation (DOT) physical is necessary for obtaining a license, not for enrolling in courses.

  • Driving Record: A combination of suspension and revocation within two years on a driving record will disqualify a prospective applicant from enrolling in a driving program.

  • Felony Status: Individuals with previous felony records are eligible for course enrollment. However, those with active felony charges, pending cases, or on probation are not qualified. For more information or questions, feel free to reach out to us.

Registration Process

  1. All prospective and enrolled students are to download and carefully review the Student Guide & Course Catalog.

  3. We'll review your form and course choices, and then reach out to confirm your spot.

  4. If you're uncertain about the courses to choose, we'll reach out to assist you in selecting the appropriate ones.

  5. Behind-the-Wheel classes accommodate 10 students each. If your preferred schedule is full, we'll suggest other dates.

  6. Upon confirming the dates, an invoice will be emailed to you, and a deposit is required to secure your place.

  7. We offer multiple payment options and are open to arranging a suitable payment plan for your convenience. Feel free to inquire about financial aid assistance if needed. We are here to help.

Payment Information

Payments for ELDT Theory Online Classroom Courses are required by the Thursday before the class starts. Courses commence on the first Saturday of every month.

For Behind the Wheel Courses, a 50% deposit is due by the Thursday before the class starts, with the remaining 50% payable a week before the test date.

​

Payment plan options are determined on a case-by-case basis.
*The maximum payment term period covers the entire duration of the driver's permit, and the full balance must be cleared before undergoing a certification test.

Please note that a convenience fee of 3% will be added to credit card payments. There is also a $25 fee for returned checks (NSF). Additionally, a 50% deposit is necessary to confirm course dates and complete the registration process. *Alternative payment arrangements can be made by contacting us directly.

Unpaid balances will incur a late fee of 1.5% for every 30-day period overdue.

Attendance Policy and Rescheduling Fees

Attendance is critical to your success in this program. Consistent participation ensures you gain the necessary knowledge and skills. Missing classes or failing to show up for scheduled sessions will result in rescheduling fees.

ELDT Theory Classroom Courses

ELDT Theory  - CDL Class A, B, and Passenger

ELDT Classroom and DMV Permit Testing

General Knowledge (Introduction, Driving Safety, Cargo Safety) Air Brakes, Combination Vehicles, Vehicle Inspection Test, Basic Control Skills Test, On-Road Driving. 20 HOURS CLASSROOM + TESTING

ELDT Theory  - CDL Class A

Class B drivers - upgrading to Class A

Combination Vehicles, Passenger, School Bus; Vehicle Inspection Test, Basic Control Skills Test, On-Road Driving. 5 HOURS

ELDT Theory  - Hazmat

Hazmat Course

To fulfill the ELDT theory (knowledge) requirement, drivers must complete an online hazardous materials training course.

8 hours

Session Schedule & Locations

ELDT Theory Courses: Online classes are conducted on the first and second weekends of each month, while DMV permit testing is available during the week, with completion contingent upon passing the test.

Behind-the-Wheel Courses: Behind-the-wheel one-on-one driving instruction takes place in the third and fourth week of each month.

Certification: Certification takes place either in the last week (fifth week) of the month or the first week of the following month. If you solely need certification testing, please reach out to our office for precise dates and times.
